Before the Meeting ​

  • Keep a running doc - Add topics throughout the week as they come up
  • Let them go first - This is their meeting, their topics take priority
  • Review previous action items - Check what was committed last time

During the Meeting ​

  • Start with check-in - Don't skip this, it builds trust
  • Time-box each section - Stick to the times to cover everything
  • Take notes on action items - Be specific about who does what

After the Meeting ​

  • Share notes immediately - While it's fresh
  • Follow up on commitments - Check in before the next 1:1
  • Add recurring topics - If something comes up every time, make it permanent

  • Weekly is ideal - Bi-weekly at minimum
  • Never cancel - Rescheduling is fine, but don't skip
  • Make it safe - This is where hard conversations should happen
