💡 How to Run Effective Stand-ups

The Three Questions

Each person answers:

  1. What did I do yesterday? - Keep it brief, 1-2 items max
  2. What am I doing today? - Focus on priorities
  3. Any blockers? - Only mention if you need help

Golden Rules

  • 15 minutes max - Set a timer, stick to it
  • Same time, same place - Consistency matters
  • Everyone stands - Keeps energy up and meeting short
  • No problem-solving - Use the parking lot for deep dives
  • Focus on work, not people - Talk about tasks, not who's doing what

✅ Pro Tips

  • Go in order - Rotate who goes first to keep it fresh
  • Use a talking token - Pass an object to indicate whose turn it is
  • Track blockers - Someone should own resolving them
  • Skip if remote - Async updates work better for distributed teams
  • Review sprint progress - Quick check on sprint goals
